Merge video joins two to five short clips into one file, in the order you set. It is the same idea as merging PDFs: matching pages (here, matching video settings) become one document. People use it to glue two halves of a talk, stack short iPad camera takes, or join screen-recorder WebMs. The output keeps the original codec. There is no crossfade and no music bed. If the clips were shot the same way, on the same device, they usually match.
A timeline is the right tool when clips need titles, volume, or different sizes. When you only need clip A then clip B, copying packets is faster and keeps quality. That is useful on iPad, where a full re-encode of 1080p can freeze Safari. You stay in the browser, with no account. Teachers can join two lesson takes before sending a file. Families can join two birthday clips from the same iPad camera. If one clip is 30 fps and the next is 60 fps, this page will refuse rather than stretch the picture.
Clips must share container family (MP4/MOV or WebM), video codec, audio codec (or all silent), display width and height, and frame rate. A 1080x1920 portrait clip will not join a 1920x1080 landscape clip. A HEVC phone clip will not join an H.264 screen recording. Trim first if you only need part of a take, then merge the matching results.
Two or three short matching clips can work, including 4K HEVC from Photos if every clip is the same size. Five large files are more likely to reload the tab. The combined size must stay under 250 MB on iPad and under 10 minutes total. Trim is the more reliable iPad job when files are large.
Use the up and down buttons, or drag a row. The first clip in the list is the start of the output. Remove a clip if it was added by mistake. Adding a sixth file is ignored.

Trim each take so the join is only the useful parts, then merge. Merging first and trimming later still works if the joined file stays under the size cap. Use Trim video for one file and this page when you have two or more matching files.
