How to use this tool

  1. Choose an MP4, MOV, or WebM from your device or iPad Photos and Files.
  2. Preview the clip. Drag the start and end sliders, type the times, or tap Start here and End here at the playhead.
  3. Check the snapped start and the export end. Cuts follow keyframe groups, so the range may move a little.
  4. Tap Download trimmed MP4 or Download trimmed WebM. The file is rewritten in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
  5. Preview the new clip on the page. Download it again, or use Share on iPad when your browser offers it.

Frequently asked questions

What does trim video do?▾

Trim video cuts unwanted time from the beginning or end of one clip and saves a new file. Teachers use it to drop the countdown at the start of a lesson recording. Students cut a long lecture down to the section they need to revisit. Creators trim a screen recording so the download starts on the first useful click. On iPad it is a fast way to shorten a camera clip from Photos without installing an editor. The original file on disk stays as it was. The new file keeps the same video and audio codec, including HEVC from many iPhones and iPads.

Why trim in the browser instead of an editor?▾

A full editor is built for timelines, titles, and music. Most people only need to drop the first few seconds or stop before the ramble at the end. This page does that job in the tab you already opened, including Safari on iPad. There is no account and no upload, which matters when the clip is a family video or a work demo. Because the tool copies compressed packets instead of re-encoding, a short H.264 or HEVC clip usually finishes in seconds on a recent iPad or a laptop. If you need frame-accurate cuts, captions, or speed changes, a desktop editor is still the better fit.

Why is the start time not exact?▾

Video is stored in groups of frames that start with a keyframe. This tool copies those groups. It cannot cut on an arbitrary frame without re-encoding, which would be slow and heavy on iPad. The start snaps back to the previous keyframe. The end keeps the rest of that group so later frames still have the pictures they depend on. The page shows the time you asked for and the export times. A typical phone clip may move by about one or two seconds.

Does this work on iPad?▾

Yes for shorter clips. Pick a file from Photos or Files, including 4K HEVC camera video. Safari on iPad can trim H.264 and HEVC when the file is within the size cap (250 MB, with a warning around 150 MB). Large 10 minute files belong on a computer. Set Camera to Most Compatible if you want H.264 files that more PCs can play. Chrome on iPad uses the same WebKit engine as Safari.

What file types can I trim?▾

MP4 and MOV with H.264 or HEVC video, and WebM with VP8 or VP9 from tools like the Justools screen recorder. Audio is copied when it is AAC, Opus, or Vorbis. 4K camera clips are allowed. 8K, AV1, HDR, and DRM files are refused. MOV camera files download as MP4 with the same packets so they are easier to share.

Is my video uploaded?▾

No. The file is read in your browser tab and the new file is built on your device. We do not receive the bytes. If you close the tab, the work in memory is gone. We do not restore video after a refresh, which keeps iPad Safari stable.

What are the limits?▾

One file at a time, up to 10 minutes. Resolution up to 3840 on the long edge and 2160 on the short edge, so a 4K phone clip (including portrait 2160x3840) is allowed. Desktop browsers cap at 500 MB. iPad and iPhone cap at 250 MB. If a job needs a re-encode (mixed sizes, exact frames), the tool refuses instead of locking the tab.

Will HEVC play on a Windows PC?▾

HEVC from iPhone and iPad plays on Apple devices. Some Windows PCs need extra codec support. This tool does not convert HEVC to H.264, because that would be a slow re-encode. If you need a file that plays everywhere, record with Camera set to Most Compatible, or convert on a computer later.
