How to use this tool
- Drop one PDF into the upload area. The tool reads the file and shows how many pages it contains.
- Review the page preview strip. Each thumbnail represents one page in your document.
- Choose a split mode: extract a continuous page range into one PDF, or split every page into separate files inside a ZIP download.
- For a range, click thumbnails to set the from/to pages (or type the numbers). Highlighted thumbnails show exactly which pages will be included.
- Click Split PDF and save the downloaded PDF or ZIP file when processing completes.

What does the split PDF tool do?
The split PDF tool lets you divide one PDF into smaller files in two ways. Range mode extracts a continuous set of pages (for example pages 3 to 12) into a single new PDF. Every-page mode creates one PDF per page and delivers them together in a ZIP file. Both options run in your browser, so the original file stays on your device throughout the process.
Is my PDF uploaded to your servers?
No. Your PDF is loaded from your device and processed locally. Justools does not send the document to a cloud server for splitting, temporary storage, or analysis. The split logic runs with JavaScript in your browser tab. When you download the result, that file is generated on your device and saved through your browser's normal download flow.
What are the file limits for splitting?
You can split one PDF at a time. The file can be up to 25 MB and contain up to 200 pages. These limits help prevent browser memory errors on smaller devices. If your document is larger, try splitting it in sections on a desktop browser, or use a PDF compressor first to reduce file size.
Will my file and settings return after I refresh?
Usually yes, in the same browser. Your uploaded PDF, split mode, and page range settings are stored locally until you tap Clear file. This is meant to protect you from losing work after an accidental refresh. The data remains on your device. We cannot see or recover your file from our side. Clearing browser data for justools.io will remove the saved session.
When should I use ZIP download instead of a single PDF?
Choose ZIP when you need every page as its own file, such as sending page 1 to one person and page 2 to another, or importing single pages into another system. Choose a single PDF when you only need one continuous excerpt, such as pages 5 through 20 of a report. ZIP keeps filenames organised as separate PDFs inside one archive.
Does this tool work without an internet connection?
You need an internet connection the first time you open the page so your browser can load the tool. After the page and scripts have loaded, splitting itself does not require uploading your PDF to a server. If you lose connection mid-session, processing can still complete for a file already loaded in the tab.
Will split pages keep the same quality as the original?
Yes. Splitting copies pages from the source PDF into new files without re-scanning or re-compressing the content. Text, images, and vector graphics should match the original at the page level. If the source PDF is low resolution, the split files will carry the same resolution.
