Frequently asked questions

What is a business budget planner?

A business budget planner maps expected money in and money out across a planning period. For small businesses that usually means a full financial year broken into months: sales and other revenue on one side, and costs such as cost of sales, wages, rent, marketing, software, financing, tax set-aside, and owner drawings on the other. This Justools tool is a category-by-month grid with year totals and simple charts so you can see seasonality and operating surplus without downloading a spreadsheet template. It is a planning aid, not a full accounting system or tax filing tool.

Why plan by month for a whole year?

Business cash does not arrive evenly. Retail peaks, project work, annual insurance, and quarterly tax set-asides all move month to month. A single weekly or monthly average can hide a shortfall in a quiet month. A twelve-month grid shows which months are tight, which categories dominate the year, and where a fixed cost like rent should be filled across every column. Charts make income versus costs and the expense mix easier to scan than a raw table alone.

How is this different from the Personal Budget Planner?

The Personal Budget Planner is a household cashflow habit tool: recurring lines with weekly, monthly, or annual inputs and a leftover figure. The Business Budget Planner is an annual operating plan: categories down the side, twelve months across, a starting month you choose, Fill year for fixed costs, monthly income-versus-cost charts, and expense-mix bars. Use Personal for home take-home budgeting. Use this tool when you need a year view for a business or freelance practice.

How is this different from the Net Profit Calculator?

The Net Profit Calculator is a quick one-period stack: revenue, COGS, operating expenses, optional tax rate, then net profit. This planner spreads categories across twelve months with year totals and charts. Use Net Profit for a fast P&L check. Use this planner when you want a reusable annual budget you can fill, revisit, and export.

What does Fill year do?

Fill year copies the first non-empty month in your financial-year order into all twelve months for that row. It is meant for fixed or repeating costs such as rent, software, or a steady retainer. Enter the amount once in the earliest month you care about, then tap Fill year. You can still edit individual months afterward for one-off spikes.

What does margin mean in the summary?

Margin here is year surplus divided by year revenue. It is a planning signal, not GAAP operating margin. If revenue is zero, margin shows as n/a. Costs include every expense section you filled, including tax set-aside and owner drawings when you enter them.
